Big changes afoot
In light of the schedule of our new coach, Bojan, and the schedules and accessibility of the boats and coxswains, Nancy has proposed several big changes:
We integrate with Betsy's group. She has 6 committed rowers. Our team will consist of 4 boats.
Bojan has stated that he would like to put the more experienced rowers together and the less experienced rowers together. We row 2 boats a day (for more direct coaching). The less experienced boats will row Tuesday/Friday and the more experienced row Monday/Wednesday. Then we could sub for one another and fill in for those wanting to take a break.
We would put out 3 boats later Sunday for those who can make it.
We only need 2 coxswains a day.
Coaching fees will go up $2.50 a boat. Bojan charges $35 for 2 boats. I don't think our dues will change if we integrate Betsy's boat.
Betsy is very excited and eager to join. She needs to discuss with her boat and ensure that they do not leave their present coach in a bad spot. I think we owe it to Betsy's boat. They have gotten the short end of the stick all along. I know there is hesitation rowing with less experienced rowers -- but we all need to do it to get better.
Please present any other ideas to Nancy.

Unloading boats
From Nancy:
The trailer will be at ORC boathouse Wednesday afternoon. Plan for late afternoon, early evening -- I will notify when I have an exact time. (I am assuming Dan will bring it over after school Weds.) Everyone needs to attend.
Reminder from Lisa Brown -- please bring your fundraiser order forms and money when we unload so she can collect them and get the orders in.

Our history
A previous e-mail from Marty, just for the record:
I was asked by one of our members about the date that ORC was established. Since almost all of our members have been around for seven (7) years or less, I wanted to pass on this information so you understand our history. Our club was established in the summer of 1975 and was called Florida Athletic Club. The original idea was to fashion it after New York Athletic Club (NYAC) but the only activity we ever participated in was rowing. In 1987 we made a bid to host the USRowing National Convention which is held in December each year. As the host organization, we needed to identify ourselves with Orlando for several reasons so the name of the club was changed to Orlando Rowing Club. We did host the convention that year and it went very well. That's the short version of our history. I always tell people that our club was established in 1975.

Fund-raiser
And from Lisa B.:
Just wanted to let everyone know. I am going to have to extend the fundraiser for another week until I can get all the order forms from everyone. I only got 1 order form this weekend. I know that was the furthest thing from anyones mind. Unfortunately, this means that the product will not be delivered before Thanksgiving. Hopefully, that is not going to be a huge problem. We were already cutting it close by gettting it all turned in tomorrow, but seeing as how I only have 3 order forms turned in, there is just no way, given the timing issues of everything. The good news is, we have a chance to make our club some more money!!! And for those of you that haven't had time to sell anything.....now is your chance!

Captain's notes
From Nancy:
Great Weekend everyone! Thank you all for making it such a wonderful experience. Just a reminder -- we are not rowing this week. Our next day back on the water will be Sunday Nov. 9. Plan to stay after practice for a few minutes -- I would like to discuss our goals for the next few months and pick a couple of weeks to take a break in December or January. I have heard that several will not be at practice -- please let me know who you are so we can decide about subs or row with fewer boats.
We do need to unload the boats when the trailer is brought over from Winter Park. Most likely Tuesday or Wednesday, I will let you all know. Please plan to be available.
Photos from the Hooch will be up soon on sportgraphics.com.
Have a restful week -- we all deserve it.

Welcome
I finally have this Web site going, even if it isn't 100 percent. I hope to get it in better shape in the coming weeks and add more content. Feel free to e-mail any suggestions, and please let me know if something's amiss. A working sub and event calendar is next on the list; I promise.
This area will be used for updates, practice schedule changes and any official announcements. Please check back often.
